FEAR FACTORY's DINO CAZARES On Upcoming Solo Album: 'I'm Gonna Be Making A F**king Metal Record'
January 29, 2018FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares has confirmed that he is working on his debut solo album, tentatively due before the end of this year. "I'm about halfway done" writing it, he told Heavy New York at this past weekend's NAMM show in Anaheim, California (see video below). "Once I get done with the writing, I do wanna get a drummer and, of course, a bass player and, of course, a singer. But I like to write the music and have stuff ready to go before I actually pick the musicians who I want to come in and maybe collaborate a little bit later on or add a little bit of their flavor. It depends on who I get."
Speaking about the musical direction of his solo material, Dino said: "I don't really like to stray from what I normally do. People know me as being a heavy artist, people know me for my right hand. I'm not exactly the kind of guy who's gonna go out and try to do a rock album or a hip-hop album or nothing like that. I like to do what I do. Metal's in my heart and speed riffing is my thing, and that's what I love to do…. I'm not saying it's gonna be the 'same ol', same 'ol.' Of course I'm gonna try to take it to somewhere different, but people are gonna know what to expect from me, and I'm okay with that."
Asked if he has a different approach in mind when working on music for other projects, Dino said: "When I was doing DIVINE HERESY, I was, like, 'Okay…' 'Cause FEAR FACTORY is its own thing. So when I was out of FEAR FACTORY back in 2002 doing DIVINE HERESY, I'm, like, 'Okay, what could I do to make this go somewhere different than FEAR FACTORY?' You know, but some of the elements are still there. When I was doing DIVINE HERESY, the tempos were heavier, it was more modern, there was guitar solos, so there was a lot of different stuff I was doing that I don't normally do in FEAR FACTORY. So every project I do, I try to get into a different mindset. Especially with ASESINO, it's more extreme, it's all pretty much death metal in Spanish, so that's definitely further away from FEAR FACTORY. So, in particular, if I'm working on a solo record, I can do a combination of all that and some new stuff. But I am who I am and people know me for my particular style, so that's what I'm gonna do… I'm not gonna go out and try to make a hip-hop record or make a fucking country record — nothing like that. No, definitely not. I'm gonna be making a fucking metal record, and that's what it is."
Back in 2016, FEAR FACTORY completed a U.S. headlining tour during which it performed its classic second album, "Demanufacture", in its entirety.
FEAR FACTORY's latest album, "Genexus", was released in August 2015 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
